While LHSC is constantly scaling back, making cuts, or being reformed, COPE will protect your benefits through its Collective Agreement.
Once in the Collective Agreement, these benefits are guaranteed. Both part-time and full-time employees are eligible to receive benefits.
The Collective Agreement defines full-time and part-time employees in the following way:
COPE will negotiate that the part-time, non- union employees will be covered under the part-time provision of the Collective Agreement.
The Hospital may say that the part-time would be converted to in lieu of benefits.
NOTE: COPE is fully prepared to take this to arbitration. We are very optimistic that we will be successful. COPE has taken this same issue to arbitration for another Local whose part-time employees joined a COPE Local, and those part-time members were awarded benefits under the Collective Agreement by the arbitrator!
COPE pays a monthly premium and all benefits are 100% covered. There is no need to pay 15% on every medication or benefit service, saving you considerable money on medications and other health-related benefits.
COPE Local 468 members have the option to enroll in the COPE Extended Health Care Plan.
If COPE members choose early retirement, members can opt to pay the cost of single/group benefit premiums to remain on the LHSC benefit plan.
It is a COPE Advantage.
